Health and Wellness Education for Senior Citizens Successfully Conducted by Tamu Samaj UK

London, 17 July 2025 — A one-day Health and Wellbeing educational session for senior citizens was successfully held at the Tamu Samaj UK Nepalese Community Centre, located in Barham Park, Wembley. The session was conducted by experienced and qualified nurse Manika Gurung and ran from 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

The session covered several important topics, including:

  • What types of food are suitable for maintaining a healthy lifestyle
  • Which foods are harmful to our health
  • How much food (portion size) is appropriate based on age, health condition, and physical activity
  • What practical habits can help improve daily lifestyle

The training not only delivered practical knowledge but also focused on offering simple, actionable advice that participants could easily implement in their daily routines.

A total of 32 senior citizens of Nepali origin participated in the session. Nurse Manika Gurung, currently, employed at Northwick Park Hospital in London and a life member of Tamu Samaj UK, shared valuable insights into nutrition, the impact of saturated fats, and the importance of maintaining overall wellbeing.

Earlier, on Thursday, 12 June 2025, Tamu Samaj UK also successfully conducted a Health & Safety Training Programme for senior citizens at the same venue, aiming to provide essential knowledge aligned with UK health and safety standards.

Additionally, English language classes are held every Thursday for senior citizens residing in the London boroughs of Brent, Harrow, and Ealing.

The Health and Wellbeing session was generously sponsored by the National Lottery Fund. Administrative support was provided by Adviser Mr. Yam Bahadur Gurung and Life Member Mr. Bal Krishna Gurung, who assisted in coordinating the event.

Mrs. Bindu Kumari Gurung Ghale, President of Tamu Samaj UK, delivered a brief opening speech highlighting the significance of the training. She extended sincere thanks to Nurse Manika Gurung, Adviser Mr. Yam Bahadur Gurung, all the participants, and offered special appreciation to the National Lottery Fund for their ongoing support in making such programmes possible.
