Health & Safety Training for Senior Citizens Successfully Conducted by Tamu Samaj UK
London: On Thursday, 12th June 2025, Tamu Samaj UK successfully held a Health & Safety training programme for senior citizens at their community hall in Barham Park, Wembley, West London. The programme aimed to provide essential health and safety knowledge in line with UK labour safety regulations.
Organisers recognised that many senior citizens who migrated from Nepal have not had the opportunity to engage in employment due to age or other reasons, resulting in a gap in essential training. The programme was specifically designed to address this need.
Mr. Matt Ansell, Consultant Trainer from UK Health & Safety Environmental Training Limited, delivered the training. To assist participants who were not comfortable with the English language, Captain Tesharjang Gurung, Secretary of Tamu Samaj UK, served as the interpreter.
The training covered several key topics, including:
– Introduction to Health & Safety Law
– Fire Safety
– Risk Assessment
– Manual Handling
– Ergonomics
– Safety
– Working at Height
– Health & Welfare
The event saw enthusiastic participation from many senior citizens living in and around West London. The entire event was funded by Lottery Funds and began with a brief introduction of trainer Mr.Matt Ansell, followed by an overview of the programme presented by Captain Tesharjang Gurung.
At the conclusion of the training, Mr. Chitra Bahadur Gurung, Founder President of Tamu Samaj UK, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all participants and encouraged them to apply the knowledge gained in their daily lives. He extended special thanks to Trainer Matt Ansell, Captain Tesharjang Gurung, Advisor Mr. Iman Ghale, and Life Member Mr. Bal Krishna Gurung for their support in organising the event. Refreshments were also provided to attendees.
Tamu Samaj UK remains committed to organising meaningful and impactful training programmes for the benefit of the community. Currently, the society offers weekly English language classes for senior citizens every Thursday, and Nepali language classes for boys and girls of Nepali origin every Saturday at the Barham Park Tamu Samaj UK Nepalese Community Hall in Wembley.
These valuable initiatives are made possible through the generous support of a grant from the National Lottery. Tamu Samaj UK, along with its president and members, extends sincere gratitude to the National Lottery Fund for their continued support in enabling the delivery of these community-focused educational programmes.
