In a landmark moment for Nepal’s democratic history, 25-year-old Rubi Kumari Thakur has officially been sworn in as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR). With this appointment, she becomes the youngest individual ever to hold such a prestigious constitutional position in Nepal.

The oath of office and secrecy was administered on 10th April 2026 by Ram Chandra Paudel at the President’s official residence, Sheetal Niwas. The ceremony signifies a notable step forward in the inclusion of young leadership within Nepal’s political landscape.

Representing the Shram Sanskritik Party under the proportional representation system, Thakur’s rise is widely regarded as a significant milestone for Nepal’s “Gen Z Movement.

At just 25, she reflects the aspirations, dynamism, and forward-thinking mindset of a new generation. Her leadership is expected to introduce fresh perspectives into parliamentary practices while strengthening the connection between traditional political structures and the expectations of today’s youth.

Marking this historic achievement, Tamu Samaj UK has expressed its pride and extended heartfelt congratulations:
