Tamu Samaj UK Celebrates Dashain Festival with Nepali Language Students

Tamu Samaj (Society) UK Celebrates Dashain Festival with Nepali Language Students!

London: On Saturday, 11 October 2025, the Tamu Samaj (Society) UK community hall at Barham Park, Wembley, London, was filled with joy and pride as the society organised a special Dashain celebration and greetings exchange programme with students from its ongoing Nepali language classes.

The programme, supported by the Community Lottery Fund, aimed to promote the Nepali language and culture among Nepali-origin children living in the UK through a 40-week free language course. In honour of Bijaya Dashami (Dashain), the children were introduced to the cultural and spiritual significance of the festival while enjoying a variety of traditional Nepali foods and drinks. During the program, the children participated in tasting various traditional Nepali dishes. Parents, teachers, and community representatives actively took part, creating a warm and festive atmosphere.

Commitment to Language and Cultural Preservation:

The Nepali language classes, which launched on 22 March 2025, have been running continuously for eight months. This program not only helps children learn to speak, read, and write in Nepali but also strengthens their connection to their heritage and identity.

Children aged 5 to 12 from the boroughs of Brent, Ealing, and Harrow have been participating in the classes, taught by qualified Nepali teachers in an engaging and interactive environment. Now in its third year, this initiative has become an important bridge connecting UK-born and raised children with their Nepali language and culture.
