Tamu Samaj UK raised £2062.00 to support war-torn Ukraine for humanitarian purposes.


Tamu Samaj UK raised £2062.00 from its members and well-wishes in just 2 short weeks in support of war-torn Ukraine for humanitarian purposes.

On Saturday, 02 April 2022, Tamu Samaj UK held a small event to officially donate £2062.00 to London Lyceum Music Ltd to support humanitarian efforts for the people of Ukraine. This donation was raised from TSUK members and well-wishers over the course of 2 weeks. Tamu Samaj UK is proud to be one of the first Nepalese organisations in the UK to provide this type of financial assistance to Ukrainian war victims or displaced persons.

                              

The event was opened by the President of Tamu Samaj UK, Mr Shiva Kumar Gurung, who welcomed everyone and gave a short introduction on Tamu Samaj UK and its charitable drive to help those in need. Following introductions, the cheque was handed to Mr Petru Cotracea and his partner Mrs Kateryana Stepanova of London Lyceum Music Ltd.

                               

Mr Cotracea as the owner and director of London Lyceum Music Ltd has been at the forefront of collecting donations in the UK. Over the past three weeks, they have organised and delivered 5 truckloads of essential food and medicines sent directly from the UK to Ukraine. With regular incoming donations, further delivery of medicines and health care products are being prepared.

Speaking on the occasion, Petru Cotracea Director, Lyceum Music Ltd., said that he was happy to know about Tamu Samaj UK and the social work of Tamu Samaj UK. He also thanked Tamu Samaj UK for its support in understanding the plight of the Ukrainian people. With this donation amount, he pledged to disburse the assistance to the appropriate people (war victims or displaced persons) by purchasing medicines and health items.

Similarly, Mrs Kateryna Stepanova said everyone should be aware of the current situation in Ukraine. She highlighted that raising awareness, and providing support as Tamu Samaj UK  has done today was truly commendable and incredible to see.

                                  

The London Borough of Brent Council Sudbury Ward Councillor Thomas Stephens and Councillor candidate Teo Benea were also guests at the event. Councillor Thomas Stephen praised Tamu Society UK and said the work done by this community was truly commendable. This praise was echoed by Brent Council candidate, Teo Benia, who also thanked Tamu Samaj UK for raising such a large amount of money in such a short time.

Mr Chitra Bahadur Gurung, Founder, President, TSUK thanked the working committee for their dedication to the humanitarian service of the Ukrainian people and for collecting more than £2,000 in a short period of time. He also thanks Councillor Thomas and councillor candidate Benea for attending the event.

                                    

Mrs Uma Devi Gurung, Chairperson of Tamu Samaj UK Mothers Group, Mrs Mina Gurung, and Mrs Bhadra Gurung, arranged light refreshments for the event. Joint Treasurer Mr Rabin Gurung and Advisor Mr Baburam Gurung were also present. President Mr Gurung expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all those present at the event and the donors for their support.

The programme started at 11 am and ended at 12:45 am. General Secretary Dharam Bal Gurung conducted the programme.
