Each year, the Tamu Samaj UK youth group hosts a football tournament during Gurung Lhochhar, the Gurung New Year festival, which occurs from late December to January. This youth football tournament promotes cooperation among young people while showcasing their sporting talent and mental well-being. The number of participating teams has increased every year, with supporters and well-wishers gathering to enjoy the games. To encourage participation, the Tamu Samaj UK Charity organisation provides prizes of £500 for first place and £300 for second place.

Runners-up prize winner: Chhantyle Association UK

This year’s tournament was held at Alperton Goals in Wembley, featuring twelve teams that competed in a league format. After a fierce competition, the runners-up were the Chantyal Association UK, while  Purba FC emerged as the champions. M Daka from Purba FC was recognised as the highest scorer, and the best player award went to Bipash Chhantyal from CAUK.

The award ceremony took place at the Tamu Samaj UK Nepalese Community Centre in Barham Park, with a buffet dinner provided for all players and supporters. The first-place prize was presented by the Honourable Sarswati Gurung, a member of the Gandaki Provincial Assembly, while the Tamu Samaj UK President awarded the runners-up prize. The best player and highest scorer awards were given by Chitra Bahadur Gurung, the founder President of Tamu Samaj UK.

This successful tournament was organized by youth chairman Prajwal Man Gurung, with significant contributions from former youth chairman Omkar Gurung and administrative support from Tamu Samaj UK committee member Suresh Ghale.

The tournament was filled with enthusiasm, and we hope to see even more teams participate next year, with hopes of a more professional setup. Prizes for the tournament were sponsored by Tamu Samaj UK, and individual members contributed funds to cover all tournament expenses. Mr. Omkar Gurung, the youth group’s former chairman and tournament coordinator, expressed his heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Tamu Samaj UK and the individual members who sponsored the tournament. He also congratulated the winning team and all participants for making the event successful. The tournament began at 12:30 PM and concluded at 5 PM, with the buffet dinner catered by Rara Caters.
