Every Wednesday, senior citizens in Tamu Samaj UK gather for a coffee morning to socialise and enjoy each other’s company.
The program started in March 2023 at the Tamu Samaj UK Nepalese Community Centre in Barham Park. It runs from 10 am to 1 pm, starting with a friendly chat over tea, coffee, and biscuits. Mrs. Amrita Gurung Thapa, a senior lady, teaches communication skills in the second hour, providing practical English lessons for everyday life.
During the program’s third hour, they play songs and dance together as a group. Some of them make jokes and laugh with one another while senior citizen men make tea and coffee for everyone. They also help set up the venue and assist with playing music, reading, and writing.
This program provides them with many benefits, including improved mental well-being. The program runs smoothly with participants from Brent, Ealing, and Harrow councils. The number of people joining the program is increasing every week.
Tamu Samaj UK provides the venue, refreshments, and stationery. Additionally, two of their life members, Mr. Ganga Bahadur Gurung from Northolt and Mr. Buddhi Bahdur Gurung from Wembley, sponsor biscuits for the senior citizens.
On behalf of the senior citizen members and as the President of Tamu Samaj UK, we extend our gratitude to Mr. Ganga and Mr. Buddhi for their generous support.
I want to extend my gratitude to the senior citizens, Life members and advisers of Tamu Samaj UK, Mr. Babu Ram Gurung, Mr. Iman Ghale, Mr.Yam Bahadur Gurung, and Mr. Guman Sing Gurung – for generously volunteering to open and close the venue for the Senior Citizen coffee morning program. Your support is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
