Former Gurkha and Managing Director of Gurkha Media UK, Mr. Milan Gurung, Receives a Historic Honour at the Pride of Rushmoor Community Awards.
A heart-warming moment of recognition unfolded at the Farnborough Village Hotel on 13th June 2025, as the inaugural Pride of Rushmoor Community Awards honoured individuals for their remarkable contributions to the local community. Among the most celebrated recipients was Mr. Milan Gurung, Managing Director of Gurkha Media News, who received a prestigious award for his Outstanding Contributions to Community Arts, Culture, Information, and Media.
Mr. Gurung, a former Gurkha soldier, has made history by becoming the first individual from the Nepali community to receive this prestigious award. This achievement represents a significant milestone and serves as a source of pride and inspiration for the entire community.In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Milan Gurung is a lifetime member of Tamu Samaj UK, one of the leading Gurung community organisations in the UK. He also contributes to various other Nepalese organisations. The President of Tamu Samaj UK, along with all its members and their families, expressed their immense pride in his achievement and extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for his future endeavours.
The Pride of Rushmoor Community Awards is a new initiative founded by former Rushmoor Borough Mayor Ms. Mara Makunura, with a mission to recognise individuals, schools, businesses, and community groups making a meaningful impact in the Rushmoor area. Ms. Makunura personally presented the award to Mr. Gurung, highlighting his commitment to bridging information gaps and championing Nepalese culture in the UK.
A respected media professional, photojournalist, and Nepali folk song composer, Mr. Gurung has long been a vital voice for the Nepalese diaspora in both the UK and Nepal. Through Gurkha Media, he has worked tirelessly to promote truthful journalism, preserve cultural identity, and keep the community informed and connected.
